ST PAT'S ARTIFICIAL OPENS WITH 1XI TRADITIONAL WIN
Wednesday 22 May
Dark skies threatened a deluge during the annual St Pat's-St John's Sports Exchange, but it only rained goals as the Town 1XI Football team celebrated the opening of the new artificial turf by beating St John's College 10-0.
In a mainly one-sided match it was the home team who best adapted to the new surface which no-doubt contributed to the breakneck speed of the game. Town recorded its second consecutive Traditional win following last week's 4-1 defeat of Palmerston North Boys' High.
The Traditional Exchange started on Tuesday night when the St Pat's Senior A Basketball team strolled to a 119-30 win, at one stage keeping St John's pointless for an entire quarter. The next day saw emphatic wins for St Pat's 1XI Hockey (11-0), 2XV Rugby (61-0) and 1XV Rugby (45-19), although St John's did claim the Senior Badminton game by an 11 point count-back after the match finished tied 3-3.
Congratulations to St John's - despite most of the scores blowing out, they never gave up and were always competitive.
