Parent Weekly Update 3 May

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to the start of a busy Term 2. A reminder that all students should be wearing formal uniform this term, and Year 10-13 students must wear their blazers every Wednesday.

STAFF CHANGES: We farewelled Ms Julia Sharp at the end of Term 1 and welcome old boy, Mr Michael Ness who has taken over teaching Ms Sharp’s classes.

THE HERDShort Documentary Film Project produced by Victoria University Film Course: Three Year 13 students are taking part in this documentary. The producers of the film are coming in to the school next week to film a few scenes on campus to give the film “the life” of a boys’ college. The scenes they wish to capture are students arriving to and leaving school, walking the corridors, gathering for assembly and entering classrooms. There is an information sheet giving more detail on the College website. If you do not want your son to appear on camera please email Wayne Mills (wayne.mills@stpats.school.nz ) at the College.

DATES TO DIARY:

  • Monday 6 May – Parents’ Association meeting at 7.30pm in the staffroom.
  • Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May – O’Shea Shield weekend hosted by St Peter’s College, Palmerston North.

ADVANCE NOTICE: The College will be closed on Friday 31 May for a Wellington wide Loop Ed day for local secondary school’s teachers and also on Monday 3 June (Queen’s Birthday Monday) and Tuesday 4 June for midterm break.

TASTE OF ST PAT’S DAY: St Patrick’s College, Wellington is holding a “Taste of St Pat’s Day” on Thursday 30 May for Year 8 Catholic boys interested in attending St Patrick’s College in 2020. This day will provide a good insight into life at St Patrick’s College and what we can offer the boys next year. It will run from 9.30am to 2.15pm. If parents would like to register their son please email admin@stpats.school.nz  Our official Open Day is on Sunday 9 June from 1.30-4.00pm.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME: Each year the College provides, for students who wish to, the opportunity to celebrate Catholic Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation. This Programme will begin shortly. If your son has not been baptised or baptised in another church this is an opportunity for him to be received into the Catholic Church. Similarly, if he is baptised and but has not made his First Communion or Confirmation, this is a good time to do so. It is his personal decision to receive the sacraments or not, in consultation with you, his parent or caregiver. If you are interested, please contact Fr Pat, by email at pat.brophy@stpats.school.nz or telephone 939 3070 extension 235.

ANZAC LITURGY: We held a moving ANZAC Liturgy in our Assembly slot this week. The Roll of Honour (the names of the 125 Old Boys who died in World War One and World War Two) was read and we prayed for peace in our world.

WINTER SPORT: Our winter sports programme begins in earnest this weekend. I have reminded our students that we expect to see our Mahi values – Faith, Manaakitanga, Achievement, Hauora and Integrity demonstrated by all our teams and supporters throughout the season.

HELP NEEDED: The Parents’ Association is a group of parents that raise funds for great projects to enhance our student’s time at St Pat’s. Joining the Parents’ Association is a great way of meeting other parents and staff, having fun and at the same time become involved in the St Patrick’s College community.
