Parent Weekly Update 30 May

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS DAY: We celebrated Catholic Schools Day on Tuesday with a morning tea for all staff to thank them for their support of Catholic education, and also took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank a number of long-serving staff members who have given service to St Patrick’s College for more than 25 years.

Please note that the College will be closed tomorrow, Friday 31 May, for a Wellington wide Loop Ed professional development day for local secondary school’s teachers and also on Monday 3 June (Queen’s Birthday Monday) and Tuesday 4 June for midterm break.

WELLINGTON COLLEGE EXCHANGE: We had a most enjoyable sports exchange with Wellington College on Tuesday of this week. Results were: 1st XV Rugby won by SPC Town 22-17, 1st XI Football won by Wellington College 3-2, Senior A Basketball won by SPC Town 106-68, Golf won by Wellington College 2.50-1.50.

DIARY: Wednesday 5 June – Cultural and Sporting Blues will be presented at assembly.    Friday 7 June – Mufti Day. Please be generous in your giving as all the money donated will help fund the work of SVDP. Sunday 9 June – Our annual “Open Day” for Year 7 and 8 boys and their families takes place on Sunday 9 June at 1.30pm. A number of our students will be needed as Tour Guides and helpers. Please encourage any families you know who have Year 7 or 8 sons to come along to see what St Pat’s can offer.

BOARD OF TRUSTEE ELECTION RESULTS: At our May Board meeting we farewelled 3 of our parent representatives: Mrs Tracey Arthurs, Mr Elliot Bell, and Mr Roland Bell as well as our staff representative – Ms Kaille Harris, and we thanked them for their service to the College as Trustees. The College was not required to proceed to hold elections for the Board of Trustee as we received 5 parent nominations for 5 parent vacancies. We congratulate and welcome new Board members – Mr Matt Appleby, Mr Basil Keane, Ms Angela Natoli, and Mr Heston Stanley as new parent representatives, and thank Mr John Campbell (current Board Chair) for his willingness to seek a further term.

ADVANCE NOTICE: SAVE THE DATE IN YOUR DIARY. Dr Chris Bowden will be speaking in the College hall on Tuesday 25 June from 7 to 9pm on “Getting Gritty: Building Resilient Young Men”. Chris is a Victoria University lecturer and a speaker on teenage mental health.  He is an excellent presenter and has significant practical advice to give to parents and caregivers around developing resilience and well-being in young men. There is no charge and all are welcome.

HOST FAMILIES REQUIRED FOR SHORT TERM STUDENTS: We also require homestays for 1 student coming from the Netherlands for Term Three, 1 Thai student coming for Terms 3 and 4, and 2 Chinese students coming for 6 weeks at the start of Term 3.
