Parent Weekly Update 4 July

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

TAYLORFEST: Tomorrow is the culmination of our Taylorfest celebration when students and staff dress in something creative that they have made and have an inter-House singing and haka competition. The theme this year is “Heroes”. Please note that when students “dress up” on Friday that we do not want any toy weapons brought to school. There are no normal classes on Friday 5 July. The day will finish between 2pm and 2.30pm. There will be no afternoon school buses.

KAPA HAKA: Our combined Kapa Haka group Nga Maioha o te Rangikura perform tomorrow at the Regional Kapa Haka Competition at the TSB Stadium. We wish them well.

STAFF CHANGES: Our Assistant Rector, Ms Sarah Parkinson will be on leave in Term 3. Mr Jarrad Porima will be acting Assistant Rector in Term 3.

NEWSLETTER: The latest College newsletter will be available on the College website on Friday afternoon.

YEAR 9 ENROLMENT APPLICATIONS: Enrolments for 2020 close on Friday 2 August.  Enrolment application forms are available on the College website or you can collect a Prospectus from the College office.

ACADEMIC WORK: Term 3 is very busy. I would strongly advise senior students to spend some time over the holidays ensuring they are up to date with all their work and all their notes are in order.  A few hours doing this in the holidays will make a difference at the end of the year.


  • Monday 22 July – Term 3 commences.
  • Tuesday 23 July – Whanau meeting at 5.30pm in “Te Hue o te Reo” Maori Language classroom.
  • Wednesday 24 July – Winter sports exchange with St Patrick’s College Silverstream hosted at Silverstream. Board of Trustees meeting at 6pm in the Colin Boardroom.
  • Thursday 25 July – Home School Partnership meeting at 6pm in the College hall. Our Poly Club will be performing their full bracket for Tu Tangata.

TERM DATES: Term 3 – Monday 22 July to Friday 27 September.  Term 4 – Monday 14 October to Friday 6 December.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY OFFICE HOURS: The College Office will be closed from 4pm this Friday, 5 July for the first week and a half of the school holidays. The College office will be open on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July from 9am to 3pm.  

FOUNDATION ANNUAL BENEFIT DINNER AND AUCTION – Saturday 24 August: Auction items requested. We are currently seeking auction items for the Benefit Dinner. We run both live and silent auctions on the night. Cinema tickets, meal deals, holiday homes, a coffee machine and adventure experiences are some of the previously auctioned items. If you or someone in your network could support us by donating, we can auction it. All proceeds from the auction support the Foundation. We raise money each year for a variety of causes, including assisting students who cannot afford to buy Chromebooks, teacher aides, development of the Learning Support Department for students with learning difficulties or where English is not the first language, investment in sports coaches, sporting, musical and educational equipment, music scholarships, and assistance with any building maintenance and development required.

Tickets for the dinner are on sale now. Email secure your tickets. They are $80 each and include a glass of bubbles on arrival, canapes, a seated two course meal and table wine. We have been very lucky to secure Sir Bryan Williams as the guest speaker and have some fabulous student-led entertainment lined up. Join us for a fabulously fun evening.

E SCOOTERS: Please note that E Scooters not allowed on school property. If students use them to get to school, they must be parked outside the school property. They are not allowed on the Turf and cannot be parked on or at the end of the driveway up to the MPS Gym.

SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP: The Second Hand Uniform Shop will be open on Saturday 20 July from 10am to 12 noon.

FOSPC – SAVE THE DATE: SPC Mother and Son Dinner Thursday 8th August 2019: The FOSPC (Friends of St Patricks College) Mother and Son Dinner will be held in the College hall on Thursday 8 August, starting at 7pm.Guest Speaker: Dave Greenberg, from the Westpac Wellington Rescue Helicopter. Tickets are $35 per person, this includes dinner, spot prizes and entertainment. To purchase your tickets please see the cashier during school hours. Mother/Son dinner tickets that have been paid are ready for collection now.  We are seeking donations for the Mother and Son dinner spot prizes. If you can donate an item or a voucher please drop the item into the school office, before Friday 26 July 2019.

GET READY FOR THE ST PAT’S SPORT SALE ON SATURDAY 17 AUGUST IN THE COLLEGE HALL: These holidays clear out your unwanted, grown-out of, surplus sporting gear and clothing in good condition. Next term, support the College by donating it for the Term 3 Parents’ Association sports sale fundraiser. All codes and ages are included – anything from cricket bats and pads to rugby/football boots, running spikes, hockey sticks, shin-pads, balls, swimming goggles, ski gear, snorkels, kit bags etc. Information on drop off and collection options is coming soon.
