Parent Weekly Update 7 June

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

St Patrick’s College Open Day on Sunday 9 June – Our annual “Open Day” for Year 7 and 8 boys and their families takes place at 1.30pm. A number of our students will be needed as Tour Guides and helpers. Please encourage any families you know who have Year 7 or 8 sons to come along to see what St Pat’s can offer.

RE: FURTHER INDUSTRIAL ACTION FROM TEACHERS: Planned further action has been called off so it is school as normal for all students next week.

FULL SCHOOL MASS FOR THE FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI: Our Ministry team have been aware for some time that we do not have a full school Mass in our calendar during Term 3. As a result, we have added this Mass on Friday 14 June at 10.15am. This Feast day celebrates the real presence of the body and blood of Christ in the bread and wine we receive during Mass. All students should be in formal uniform for Mass next Friday. Parents are very welcome to join us.

DIARY:

  • Friday 7 June – the Second-hand Uniform Shop is open today at lunchtime.
  • Monday 10 June – Parents’ Association meeting in the staffroom at 7.30pm. Please note that the planned meeting of the Polynesian Parents’ Association which was to be held on 10 June is now rescheduled for Monday 17 June at 6pm in the staffroom.
  • Friday 14 June Feast of Corpus Christi Mass at 10.15am in the College Hall.

ADVANCE NOTICE: SAVE THE DATE IN YOUR DIARY. Dr Chris Bowden will be speaking in the College hall on Tuesday 25 June from 7 to 9pm on “Getting Gritty: Building Resilient Young Men”. Chris is a Victoria University lecturer and a speaker on teenage mental health.  He is an excellent presenter and has significant practical advice to give to parents and caregivers around developing resilience and well-being in young men. There is no charge and all are welcome.

HOST FAMILIES REQUIRED FOR SHORT TERM STUDENTS: We also require homestays for 1 student coming from the Netherlands for Term Three, 1 Thai student coming for Terms 3 and 4, and 2 Chinese students coming for 6 weeks at the start of Term 3. We will be paying $290 per week for hosting these students. Please email Maria Elenio at maria.elenio@stpats.school.nz or call on 027 4187500 if you are interested or would like more information.
