Weekly Update 1 November

Dear Parents and Caregivers

LEAVERS MASS: Parents are invited to attend our Leavers Mass today at 10.30am. During this Mass we pray for our leavers and the Year 13’s are presented with a leavers tie.

SENIOR ACADEMIC PRIZE-GIVING: All students and families are warmly invited to our Senior Prize-giving on Tuesday 5 November at 7.30pm in the College hall. Students must be in formal uniform. Year 13 families are invited to come early at 6pm for a “Cocktail Evening” before prize-giving.

JUNIOR EXAM TIMETABLE AND NCEA EXAM TIMETABLE: Both timetables are available on the College website.

  • Monday 4 November: Parents’ Association meeting at 7.30pm in the staffroom
  • Tuesday 5 November: Senior Academic Prizegiving in the College hall at 7.30pm. Formal uniform must be worn
  • Wednesday 6 November: Junior exams commence
  • Friday 8 November: NCEA exams commence and the College newsletter is available.

NCEA EXAMS. All students doing NCEA examinations have received their Examination Code Slip and Instruction Sheet with the examination timetable. Please check the examination timetable regularly so that there is no chance of your son missing an exam. Morning exams start at 9.30am and afternoon exams at 2pm. Students need to be here 30 minutes prior to their exam. They must bring their Examination Code slip. Year 11 and Year 12 students must wear proper school uniform to exams. Year 13 students may wear mufti to exams. Derived Grades – if your son is not able to sit the examination because he is sick, had an accident, or there was some other special situation you should let the Assistant Rector, Ms Sarah Parkinson know straight away and apply for a Derived Grade. The same applies if having sat the examination he did not do as well as he could have due to sickness. In these cases, complete an application form which needs to be completed by a doctor within 24 hours. The application forms can be collected from the College, or can be downloaded from the NZQA website.

STUDY LEAVE: Please be aware that most senior students will be released for Study Leave on Friday 1 November at approximately 12.30pm. During the following weeks they are able to study at home or come into school and work with their teachers. The Library is available for quiet study but we do not want seniors coming in to socialise. Students do not need to wear uniform if they are coming into school to study. For senior students NZQA external exams start on Friday 8 November. Some seniors will be asked to continue to come to school regularly so we can help them complete internal assessments. Please do your best to ensure your sons are organised for exams.

FAREWELL FUNCTION FOR THE RECTOR: The Board of Trustees would like to invite members of our College community to attend Mr Swindells’ farewell on Wednesday 4 December in the College hall at 5.30pm. The function is from 5.30-7pm and will provide the community with an opportunity to acknowledge Mr Swindells contribution as Rector to the life of St Patrick’s College. There will be some short speeches, entertainment and light refreshments. All are welcome.

DVC EXHIBITION: Our Year 12 and 13 Design and Visual Communication students have an Exhibition of their work at Thistle Gallery in Cuba Street from Tuesday to Saturday next week which is open from 10am to 5pm daily.

SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP: The Second-hand Uniform Shop is very short on stock, especially the larger sizes. We would be very grateful if you could donate any uniform items that you will no longer require especially if your son is finishing Year 13 or leaving College. Please consider donating any good quality blazers, jackets, PE tops / shorts, or trousers. Profits from the uniform shop go back to the school in the form of scholarships to students, grants to specific projects, support and hospitality at college functions, and uniforms for families in need. We will consider purchasing blazers ($110) and jackets ($50) if they are in very good condition and blazers must be dry-cleaned with the ticket still attached. Complete a Purchase agreement form. Please drop your uniform items into the College reception and see our page on the College website for more information. Thank you so much for your support of the Second Hand Uniform Shop.
