Weekly Update 27 September

Dear Parents and Caregivers

NEWSLETTER: The latest College newsletter will be available on the College website by late this afternoon.

ACADEMIC PROGRESS: Senior students have finished most internal assessments this week so in Term 4 we can concentrate on preparing students for external exams. Reports for all seniors will be posted on the parent portal of Kamar by Monday evening, 30 September. We have not sent home tracking sheets as every student published NCEA internal results are also on the parent portal where it can be accessed by students and parents.
Senior Exams take place in the first week of Term 4. Our exam timetable is on the website. During this week seniors only have to attend school when they have an exam or a timetabled study session in one of their classes. Students may wear either summer uniform or formal uniform for these exams. The Library is available for study during exam week. If students are coming in to school, they need to be in uniform.

STUDY: All seniors need to be doing some study during the holidays to ensure they are prepared for their exams in Week One of next term.

SUMMER UNIFORM: From the start of Term 4 summer uniform may be worn. A reminder that if students are wearing sandals the sandals must have a back strap – they cannot be “flip flops”. On Wednesday formal uniform is still to be worn.

SPORTS PRIZEGIVING: We had a wonderful Sports Prizegiving last night. Junior Sportsman of the Year was Calum Koebergh and Senior Sportsman of the Year was Isaac Oliver. Thank you to all those families who attended.

  • Saturday 28 September – Year 13 Formal at Te Papa at 6.15pm. Students need to arrive between 6.15pm and 6.45pm.
  • Monday 14 October – Senior Assessment Week commences and the Parents’ Association meet at 6pm and FOSPC meet at 7.45pm.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY OFFICE HOURS: The College office will be closed during the school holidays from Monday 30 September to Tuesday 8 October, and will re-open Wednesday 9 October through to Friday 11 October between the hours of 9am and 3pm. Normal office hours will resume on Monday 14 October.

SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP: The Second-hand Uniform Shop will be open on Saturday 12 October from 10am to 12 noon. The Second-hand Uniform Shop is very short on stock, especially the larger sizes. We would be very grateful if you could donate any uniform items that you will no longer require as you go into term IV. Please consider donating any good quality blazers, jackets, PE tops / shorts, or trousers. Profits from the uniform shop go back to the school in the form of scholarships to students, grants to specific projects, support and hospitality at college functions, and uniforms for families in need. We will consider purchasing blazers ($110) and jackets ($50) if they are in very good condition and blazers must be dry-cleaned with the ticket still attached. Complete a Purchase agreement form. Please drop your uniform items into the college reception and see our page on the College website for more information. Thank you so much for your support of the Second Hand Uniform Shop.

TERM DATES: Term 4 – Monday 14 October to Friday 6 December.

KNOWLEDGE SHOP NCEA 1 and 2 EXAM PREPARATION PROGRAMME: The upcoming holidays provide the chance for all students to prepare for the practice and final exams, but too often, despite the best of intentions, they pass with little or no work completed and lots of regrets. The Knowledge Shop Holiday Programme provides an excellent opportunity for structuring exam preparation, focusing on the Achievement Standards that require the most work before the final exams. Each session will concentrate on key aspects of the curriculum and will help motivate students to start their studies early, avoiding the stress of leaving matters to the last minute. Time and again we hear students say that while it was hard to choose to give up a few hours of the holiday to attend the programme, that it was the best decision that they could have made. Places are still available for NCEA 1 and 2 English, maths and science classes. The programme runs in the first week of the holidays at St Patrick’s College, so this is the final week for booking.
Go to https://www.knowledgeshopnz.co.nz for the schedule and to book.

Thank you parents for all your support during this term. We wish our Senior A Basketball team every success at Nationals next week in Palmerston North and our two cricket teams who are travelling to Australia a safe and enjoyable trip.

May God bless you all.
