2022 McEvedy Shield Postponed

The Rectors and Principals for the four College's have collectively made the decision that, from a Health and Safety stand point, the combined event that was originally scheduled for Tuesday 1st March, is too big a risk in the current accelerating COVID environment. The fluid COVID-19 situation makes it extremely difficult to effectively plan for an event of this nature and the chance of a combined event becoming a potential 'super-spreader' event is significant.

The first McEvedy shield was held 100 years ago, and has only been cancelled twice in that time - in 1948 and 2021. The four colleges, in conjunction with College Sport Wellington and Wellington City Council, have committed to attempt to hold the 2022 event in September, after the completion of the winter sports season. All Colleges remain committed to providing a celebration of athletics that honours Dr Pat McEvedy's love for sport and true sportsmanship which led to him donating the shield.

A decision on a new date will be announced when it has been decided.
