Giving effect to te Tiriti

St Patrick’s College Wellington Board of Trustees statement to giving effect to te Tiriti

The St Patrick’s College Wellington Board of Trustees confirmed at our recent meeting that we will continue to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi.

We are committed to ensuring that every student can attain their highest possible standard of educational achievement, is physically and emotionally safe, and learns in an inclusive environment that responds to differing needs. We see our commitment to giving effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi as one of the ways we meet these responsibilities for all students.

We remain guided by the New Zealand Catholic Education Office, which encourages Catholic schools to continue strong engagement with te Tiriti and Te Ao Māori.

We are aligned with the St Patrick’s College Board of Proprietors and NZCEO in this view.

We support teaching about te Tiriti o Waitangi, local Māori and Pākehā history, and building genuine partnership with mana whenua and Māori whānau.

Our goal is to seek a thoughtful integration that serves students educationally, supports their wellbeing and achievement, and remains faithful to our Catholic and Marist identity and te Tiriti partnership.

We remain committed to working collaboratively with our wider community and listening carefully to the range of perspectives within it.
