National Network of Marist Schools Represent Strongly at 2026 Maadi Regatta
National Network of Marist Schools from across Aotearoa came together at the 2026 Maadi Regatta, New Zealand’s National Secondary Schools Rowing Championships. Many other Catholic Colleges were also represented at the Regatta showcasing the depth and diversity of rowing across Catholic education.
Held annually, the Maadi Regatta is the pinnacle event for school rowing in New Zealand, bringing together the country’s best crews to compete across a full programme of events. It is a demanding and highly competitive regatta, with large fields, multiple heats, 499 races in 2026, and a standard that reflects the very best of school sport.
This year, the National Network of Marist schools were represented by teams of all sizes, each contributing to the strong presence of the network on the national stage.
St Bede’s College (Christchurch) brought a large and competitive squad of 40 rowers, competing across a wide range of events and demonstrating depth throughout their programme with 8 A Finals, and 4 B Finals. St Bedes took out Gold in the U17 coxed Eight, and U17 Coxed Four.
St Patrick’s College Wellington fielded a squad of 13 rowers, performing strongly across their races and progressing through to A and B finals despite their smaller numbers.
Roncalli College (Timaru) travelled with a tight-knit team of 7 rowers, showing determination and commitment in every race they entered.
Pompallier Catholic College (Whangārei) was represented by a single rower, highlighting the inclusive nature of the regatta and the opportunity for athletes from all schools, regardless of size, to compete at a national level.
Across the week, the shared Marist values of commitment, perseverance, and community were evident on and off the water. Whether part of a large squad or competing individually, each athlete contributed to a strong collective presence that reflects the spirit of Marist education in sport.
The 2026 Maadi Regatta once again demonstrated not only the high standard of school rowing in New Zealand, but also the importance of participation, connection, and representing one’s school with pride.
