'The Blue Messengers' - Win Three

Congratulations to 'The Blue Messengers'.

Kings Birthday Weekend saw the St Patricks College Jazz Band travel to Palmerston North and do exceptionally well at the 59th Manawatu International Jazz & Blue Festival 2026, High School competition.

The band comprised of:

Abilio Fernandes (Piano & Saxophone); Zach Breen (Bass); Lorenzo Di Maio (Guitar); J C Historillo (Drums).

A fresh addition to the band was TJ Tuimavave (Vocals).

There were a total of sixteen combo bands competing and 'The Blue Messengers' came away with three rolling trophy awards.

  • Abilio Fernandes won the Manawatu International Jazz & Blues Festival rolling cup for best Piano performance.
  • Zach Breen won the Kevin Downing Guitar school award for most outstanding Bassist.
  • The Band “The Blue Messengers” won the Judges Commendation, Rodger Simms Memorial Award.
